hey, that has happened to one of my crank bros candy sl pedals. hopefully it's not a chronic problem for them. it sounds like you were having a great race til then. pissah.

Chris, this does not look like a pedal failure, rather the crank thread insert failed.

Sologoat is running those fancy carbon cranks, maybe now he'll go back to Shimano or RF, eh, Ernesto?

yep - went to the shop the day after and they put some of the new XTR's on the bikes.

and yes, it was the crank - not the pedals. i haven't heard anything offical back from FSA about what is the exact issue is.

apparantly, the insert is only where the pedal attaches to the crank and does not run the length of the crank. if you look at the picture, i turned the pedal so that you could see the insert.

i had actually hurt my ankle earlier in the race and thought the "funny feeling" was coming from my ankle. when i looked down at the pedal, i was somewhat relieved to see that i wasn't hurt but bummed out to see that i wouldn't finish.

at least it happened before worlds.

i'll update the blog once i get the full scoop from FSA.
